Dr François-Xavier Mbop-Kou: In the courtyard of the great men of science




The Cameroonian researcher was elected executive board member of international societies of infectious diseases in the United States. The meeting with Dr François-Xavier-Mbop Kou was held Monday, March 22, 2010, in his modest office laboratory of Hygiene Mobile Messa, Yaounde. It is the administrator. Indeed, the Cameroonian scholar was elected to the executive board of the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), for a term of six years. The occasion was the 14th International Conference on infectious diseases held in Miami, USA from 9 to 12 March 2010.

Dr François-Xavier-Kou Mbop is now part of the thirty illustrious men of science of ISID. Several winners of international awards, including numerous Nobel Prize winners, have appeared. Examples of Truly Elion, Reference Elion Nobel Prize Award and Jonathan Mann, who is the first director of the Global Programme against AIDS and the first Chair of Ethics François-Xavier Bagnoud Center at Harvard University in the United States.
The executive board of the International Society for Infectious Diseases is a consultative body and operating several UN agencies. This learned society with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts United States, in the famous Harvard University, is composed of over 20 000 experts from nearly 155 countries. It has, among other mission is to improve the health of populations affected by infectious diseases, to train specialists in infectious diseases and monitor such diseases.

"My election is a recognition and encouragement for a small worker of science, an invitation to more hard work to the emerging generation. It is also an honor for my country, Cameroon, one of whose son accesses the decision-making body which covers all companies of infectious diseases around the world. I intend, by my position, to stimulate exchanges between all actors to fight against infectious diseases for a reaction strong against the disease, "explains Dr François-Xavier Mbop-Kou. This

virologist microbiologist, co-author of four books and over 50 publications in international journals of repute, has had several recognitions world through its work. In 2000, for example, while working at the Health Protection Agency London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, through its research collaboration with researchers at British, French and American, he was awarded the first price GlaxonSmithKline Elion Research Award. His work demonstrated the interaction between Herpes and HIV. "The life expectancy of people with AIDS has been prolonged because today, the management of STIs such as herpes, is an integral part of the management of patients with HIV", he concludes .
